When times are uncertain, you rely on truth and clarity from the people, brands, and organizations around you. For many of us, the outbreak of COVID-19 (coronavirus) is the first time we have seen this need on such a large scale. That is why we want to remind our customers of the built-in safety features and our high standards for the products we make, as well as how to help keep your firehouse safe from illnesses like COVID-19.

Below, you will find answers to questions regarding cleaning and disinfecting American Firehouse Furniture products. We have also included links to important sources, like the CDC. Please contact us if you have any questions not answered here.

Can I clean my American Firehouse Furniture products, including recliners?

Yes. You are able to disinfect our products, including all recliners, per CDC-Environmental Cleaning and Disinfection recommendations and NFPA 1581 Chapter 8, Appendix C.

How do I clean my American Firehouse Furniture recliners?

The bonded leather that we use to cover our furniture has been tested and will withstand the use of a 3% bleach solution in compliance with NFPA and the CDC. Be sure to clean your recliners and other surfaces regularly. If a person who has shown any symptoms of COVID-19 or any other contagious illnesses has used the furniture in your fire station, promptly clean and disinfect any surfaces they have touched.

How long does COVID-19 survive on surfaces?

While it may be possible for a person to get COVID-19 by touching a surface with the virus on it and then touching their face, it is most commonly spread through person-to-person contact via respiratory droplets produced when the infected person coughs or sneezes. That being said, the CDC shares, “Current evidence suggests that novel coronavirus may remain viable for hours to days on surfaces made from a variety of materials. Cleaning of visibly dirty surfaces followed by disinfection is a best practice measure for prevention of COVID-19 and other viral respiratory illnesses in community settings.”

We want to encourage everyone to wash their hands frequently, to avoid touching your face, and to distance yourself from others if you show any symptoms of coronavirus. Our thoughts and hearts are with everyone impacted by this virus.
